Backpacking Equipment Check List
Upper Body
- Rain jacket:Synthetic fabrics are best because they won’t absorb water, dry quickly, and are relatively windproof. Be careful with windbreakers and track jackets, most are not waterproof fleece jacket, wool sweater:Keep you warm at night and in the early morning when it is cooler.
- Long-sleeve shirt
- Women should bring 2 to 3 sports bras
- Down coats: For a multiday winter camping expedition
Head and Hands
- Hat(wide-brimmed, baseball) for sun protection
- Wool or synthetic hat for warmth at night
- Wool/fleece mittens or gloves
Lower Body
- Synthetic Underwear (recommended 1/day for females).
- Athletic synthetic shorts (loose-fitting)
- Loose fitting synthetic/fleece pants.No jeans or sweatpants
- Waterproof Rain pants
Feet
- Camp shoes-sneakers/running shoes. No open toed sandals.
- 4 pairs of hiking socks for one week trip.Wool or synthetic is fine.
- Hiking boots, good ankle support and traction
Personal Essentials
- Any medications you will need to take during the trip
- Contacts solution, glasses
- Toothbrush and toothpaste.Do not bring “smellables” like shampoo, soap to prevent attracting insects and animals
- Insect repellent.
- Small towel
Personal Gear
- Camping sleeping pad (closed cell ensolite) or inflatable camping pad to keep sleeping bag dry.
- Sleeping bag to keep you warm at night.
- Several heavy plastic garbage bags.(one for sleeping bag, one for backpack, one as rain cover, one for garbage during your trip.)
- Folding camping tent 4 person 6 person to prevent wind and cold weather.
- Hiking stick(Trekking Pole) which provide traction on trails, snow and ice that makes you more secure.
- Plastic cup with handle and plastic bowl,spoon
- Headlamp or small flashlight. This is important in the dark.
- Portable Hammock.You can recline on it to take a rest between two trees.
- Foldable Camping Chair. Easy to carry. Take a rest or eat something on it. Chatting with friends in forest.
